According to Teamsters Canada, who represent 125,000 workers across Canada, including 16,000 workers in the rail industry, teamsters at CN Rail could go on a National Strike as early as November 19th. Approximately 3000 conductors, trainpersons and yardpersons voted 99.2% in favour of strike action last month. The negotiations between the Union and CN Rail have started six months ago, as the previous collective agreement expired on July 23rd , 2019. The parties have been working with federal mediators for the past four months, and the next round of talks is set for November 12th. The union will give at least 72 hours’ notice of any strike action.
A national CN Rail strike would affect the inland movement of containers to/from the main Canadian ports For urgent shipments with tight deadlines, please contact your Sales Representative to discuss the available options.
ITN will continue to monitor the news from Teamsters and the negotiations progress and will revert as updates become available.
