Dear Customers,
This morning at 00:01 hrs ET the Teamsters Canadian Rail Conference – Conductors, Trainpersons and Yardpersons (TCRC-CTY) train conductors and railyard coordinators commenced strike action on CN Rail. While both parties remain at the bargaining table, freight movements will encounter some disruption while passenger services in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal will be unaffected.
Federal mediators and both the Labour and Transport Ministers are engaged in the negotiations and remain hopeful that a negotiated settlement will be reached and that the work stoppage will brief.
CN managers will attempt to maintain a level of service. Just last week CN announced lay-offs of 1,600 employees along its Canadian and US network in an effort to “adjust resources to demand.” ( Source : CIFFA )
We will continue to update about further development.
